May 2, 2024 report

May 2, 2024

Summary  upper level high pressure is upwelling ahead of a low pressure system located in the northeast Pacific. This will drive temperatures from the low 80s of yesterday into the mid 80s Thursday and Friday. That low will drive southeastward into northern California Saturday and into north central California Saturday. Projections show this storm is speeding up. It now appears Saturday afternoon and Saturday night will be the time of most of the active weather. This storm is also taking more of a northern trajectory so instead of exiting into the Desert Southwest, the low will move into Nevada Sunday, ending any further chances of precipitation. temperatures will plummet from the mid 80s today into the mid to upper 60s Sunday. High pressure aloft will build in from the west Sunday. A northwest flow behind the low will generate upslope clouds against the north facing slopes of the Tehachapi Mountains and the west facing slopes of the Sierra Nevada in Tulare County. Temperatures will climb back into the mid to upper 70s by Tuesday. A weak trough of low pressure will carve out over the interior west Wednesday through Friday of next week. this is a dry pattern for us and will maintain near to marginally below  average temperatures into next weekend.

Forecast Mostly clear skies through Friday night. increasing cloudiness Saturday morning. a slight risk of showers Saturday afternoon. A chance of showers Saturday night. partly cloudy Sunday and Sunday night. mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Sunday through Thursday of next week.

Two Week Forecast:  May 9 through May 15: This model indicates high pressure off the California coast. A trough of low pressure will be over the interior west. There will be a chance of showers during this time frame, mainly over the mountains along with marginally above average temperatures.

Thirty Day Report: This model is indicating a better than even chance of above average precipitation. near average temperatures are expected overall as an early summer type pattern begins to take shape.

Ninety Day Report: As we move into the dry season, temperatures will be the main concern. Currently it appears readings will be generally above average. The chance of rain at any given time is extremely low.

Winds: Winds will be mainly out of the northwest at 8 to 15 mph through Sunday. Local gusts to 20 mph are possible, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours.

Rain: Models this morning have sped up the timing of an eastern Pacific low which will dive into northern California late Friday night and Saturday morning. the low will dig into northcentral California Saturday night then will speed off  to the  east Sunday morning. it now appears the most unstable portion of this storm will remain over northern California. Also, the pool of cool, unstable air will be overhead during the overnight hours, reducing the chance of thunderstorms. Potential rainfall amounts will generally be no more than a tenth or two with locally more, especially near the base of the foothills. Dry weather will return Sunday with dry weather on tap for all of next week.
