Temperatures yesterday dropped into the upper 80s with only the very warmest locations struggling to 90. We may see a degree or two of warming today, however with a rather strong, robust low over Idaho at this hour, readings will only reach the low 90s. the low will move in to the Rockies tonight and tomorrow as a weaker low moves out of the Gulf of Alaska and into the Pacific Northwest over the weekend. This will keep temperatures marginally below average.
The onshore flow has weakened slightly over the past few hours. The marine layer is still more than 3,000 feet deep with winds through Pacheco Pass averaging 14 MPH, gusting to 23. At Travis AFB, winds were out of the south at 14. That will increase as the daytime heating process sets up.
Medium range models show a series of low pressure systems moving out of the Gulf of Alaska and generally morning through the northern tier states. The eastern Pacific High will remain off shore until roughly the middle of next week when the high builds further north and east. This will create a dry, southwesterly flow, keeping the monsoon south and east of our region for the next week to possibly ten days.
Forecast: If you can handle the smoke, it will be mostly clear through Friday. Mostly clear skies will prevail Saturday through Thursday.

Winds Discussion: Through Friday, there will be periods of winds out of the west/northwest at 10 to 20 MPH. gusts to near 30 MPH will be possible, mainly along the west side and especially near the Interstate 5 corridor interspersed with periods of somewhat lighter winds. Winds Saturday through Sunday will be mainly out of the northwest at 5 to 15 MPH, decreasing to light and variable during the night and morning hours.
