January 29, 2022
Temperatures at midday are running anywhere from 6 to 10 degrees cooler than 24 hours ago. Dew points have jumped up as marine air spilled into the valley overnight. A cut off low west of San Diego will move inland along the California/Mexico border tonight and will be centered somewhere near Tucson by Monday. Currently, the northern limit of the system’s cloud shield is across Fresno County. Skies will clear as the low pulls off to the east. Behind this system is our next ridge of upper level high pressure. A trough will move through the Pacific Northwest and California by midweek. No precipitation is anticipated with the possible exception of some snow showers over the high country Tuesday night and Wednesday. Behind this system is a cool air mass as a north/northwest flow develops along the eastern side of high pressure over the eastern Pacific Ocean. All of the models are indicating this high will be a persistent feature. Once we get beyond about February 7, a series of waves of low pressure will move through the interior west with a blockading high to our west. If there’s any model accuracy, dry weather can be expected for the first 10 days of February.
Forecast: Clearing tonight. Mostly clear skies Sunday and on through Saturday of next week with areas of night and morning low clouds and fog.

Wind Discussion: Winds will be generally at or less than 6 MPH with periods of near calm conditions through Tuesday.
Rain: Expect dry weather for at least the next 7 to 10 days.
Frost: Temperatures are running a good 7 to 10 degrees lower this afternoon than yesterday. However, dew points have jumped up and are running generally in the upper 30s to the mid 40s. the cloud cover above the valley this afternoon will clear from northwest to southeast, so radiational cooling will commence, especially during the late night hours. Look for more fog than we’ve seen for a while due to the higher moisture content of the air. The bottom line is, once you mix up the soup we come up with the same old thing with lows in traditional cold spots dipping into the upper 20s and lower 30s with most locations remaining in the low to mid 30s. Similar conditions can be expected each night through the middle of next week. At this point, there’s no pattern to suggest a particularly cold pattern on the horizon with afternoon highs marginally above average and seasonal overnight lows.
