The upper low and its cloud cover has moved eastward into southern Arizona this morning, leaving clear skies in its wake. Low to mid 30s are again widespread with isolated low pockets in the upper 20s. Upper level high pressure has ow replaced the low and this will result in a very temporary and minor warming trend. Over the eastern Pacific Ocean, a high will build northward into the Gulf of Alaska while an essentially dry trough of low pressure slides southward across California Tuesday and Wednesday. It’s possible some light snow showers could occur over the high Sierra Tuesday into Wednesday.. don’t be surprised to see upslope clouds develop against the north facing slopes of the Tehachapi Mountains. This will be accompanied by cooler temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday. The high will build inland during the latter part of the week, allowing temperatures to struggle back into the low to mid 60s. Medium range models remain adamant about a blocking ridge pattern developing which will maintain dry conditions for the first ten days of February.
Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Tuesday with patchy late night and morning fog. Partly cloudy Tuesday night through Wednesday night. Mostly clear Thursday through Sunday with patchy night and morning fog.

Two Week Outlook: February 4 through February 10: this time around, this model is reverting back to the same old thing. A large ridge of upper level high pressure will cover the eastern Pacific and the western one-third of the US, meaning the chance of rain will be very low with above average temperatures.
February: The guidance on this model does not show any particular pattern that would favor temperatures or precipitation. Basically, what it’s saying is there’s equal chances of above or below average rain as well as above or below average temperatures. Flip a coin.
February, March, April: There are no dominant trends on this model favoring above or below average precipitation. Temperatures during this period should be fairly close to seasonal values.
Wind Discussion: Winds will be at or less than 6 MPH with periods of near calm conditions through Monday night. Winds Tuesday will be out of the northwest at 8 to 15 MPH with gusts to near 20 MPH, mainly along the west side and from Fresno County north. Winds will return to light to near calm Wednesday.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for the next 7 to 10 days.
Frost: Low to mid 30s were again widespread this morning. Exeter dropped briefly to 28 while Lindsay and Sanger each dropped to 29. These were the exceptions to the rule, however. Widespread low to mid 30s can be anticipated again tonight with river bottom type of locations briefly dropping into the upper 20s. it’s possible that, on Tuesday and Wednesday, upslope clouds could develop against the southern Sierra Nevada and the north facing slopes of the Kern County mountains. Areas that do receive cloud cover will remain above freezing. The trough of low pressure moving through is cold, but certainly nothing unusual for late January. Widespread low to mid 30s can be anticipated Thursday through Sunday as the dry environment continues. Like a broken record, I see nothing that would result in a particularly cold air mass.
