In the short term, our main concern is blistering heat which will continue through at least Thursday. A strong high center is located near the Nevada/Utah border in close proximity to California. The clockwise flow around the high is steering some high clouds over central California and is adding enough moisture for isolated thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada during the heat of the day. My main concern this morning is a developing tropical system southwest of Cabo San Lucas. Three days ago, the GFS model showed this storm moving up the Baja coast then into cooler waters along the northern Baja coast by Thursday. It would then be centered south/southwest of San Diego Saturday. Other models are now following suit. This will push moisture into southern California and up the Sierra Nevada over the weekend with a chance of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the valley floor. As the storm unwinds, moisture will move into our region Sunday for a continued risk of scattered showers and thunderstorms. By Monday, the moisture will have moved out of the region.
Forecast: Mostly clear with occasional high clouds and extremely hot through Thursday. Partly cloudy Friday. Variable clouds Friday night through Sunday with a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy Sunday night and Monday.
Temperatures: Highs today will range from 105 to 109. Lows tonight will range in the 70s. highs Tuesday will range from 108 to 112. Lows Tuesday night will range in the 70s. Highs Wednesday will be from 106 to 110.
