Showers are still developing over the valley portion of Kern County and along the Sierra Nevada foothills in Tulare County as of the time of this writing. Winds have picked up with most locations reporting winds out of the northwest in the 10 to 20 mph range. At last report, Lemoore had a wind gust of35 mph. very cold air along the backside of the low is being transported into the valley. As of midday, Fresno and Visalia were reporting just 44 degrees with Bakersfield at 42. The current shower activity will decrease over the next several hours. Weak high pressure over the eastern Pacific will expand inland tonight through Saturday. The next cold trough of low pressure will drop out of the Gulf of Alaska and into the Pacific Northwest Saturday and into northern and central California Saturday night through Monday. showers should reach as far south as Fresno County Saturday night with showers over the remainder of the valley Sunday and Monday. a northeast to southwest trough of low pressure will keep an active pattern in northern California through Wednesday. For the fourth day in a row, models are showing a secondary low off the northern California coast Thursday, moving it inland Friday with possibly substantial amounts of precipitation, especially over the mountains. After next Friday, a westerly flow will move across the Pacific and into California. This would be a warmer pattern with a chance of milder storms moving into California from time to time through at least next weekend.
Forecast: Partly cloudy and cold tonight. Becoming mostly clear Thursday through Friday night. Increasing cloudiness Saturday. A chance of showers from mainly Fresno County north Saturday night. Showers likely Sunday through Monday, mainly north of Kern County. Variable cloudiness Monday night through Wednesday

Wind Discussion: Gusty winds out of the northwest will continue into the evening hours at 10 to 20 mph. Gusts to 35 are possible, mainly along the west side. Winds will slowly decrease during the later evening hours, decreasing to around 5 to 10 mph after midnight with gusts to 20 mph still possible along the west side. Light to near calm winds will be possible around sunrise along the eastern and southern rims of the valley. Winds Thursday through Saturday will be generally at or less than 12 mph during the mornings to afternoons and generally at or less than 6 mph nights and mornings with periods of near calm conditions.
Rain: The last of the shower activity continues to move through Kern County with light showers along the Sierra Nevada foothills. As the low pulls off to the east, the showers will end for dry conditions tonight which will last through Saturday. Models show the next round of precipitation spreading as far south as Fresno County Saturday night and over the remainder of the valley Sunday into Monday, mainly north of Kern County. Amounts appear to be pretty light, generally .25 or less. the rain line will pull back into northern California Tuesday into Wednesday night. This is the fourth day in a row models have shown a low developing off the northern California coast, moving inland Thursday through Friday night with widespread precipitation. after Friday night, a west to east flow will develop across the eastern Pacific and into California. Pacific storms will have a chance to move through from time to time beginning late in the weekend and through much of next week.
Frost: Gusty northwesterly winds are moving down the valley. Dew points have fallen into the low to mji 30s. skies have cleared over the western side of the valley, however cloud cover extends over the east side southward through Kern county. Drier air aloft is moving into northern California and will mix out at least some of the cloud cover tonight. However, it’s entirely possible some cloud cover will remain, especially over Kern and Tulare Counties. Where clouds hang tough, temperatures will fall down into the 29 to 32 degree range. The other factor for tonight will be wind conditions. Winds will begin to decrease after sunset. However, winds along the west side will remain in the 8 to15 mph range. The bottom line is, we have a complex forecast for tonight with two possible scenarios. Number one is that we keep at least some cloud cover, resulting in temperatures in the 29 to 34 degree range with the second scenario being that all the clouds mix out and winds die off, resulting temperatures in the widespread 27 to 30 degree range with the coldest locations down to around 26 or so.
The inversion tonight will be weak, especially before midnight but should improve by sunrise to around 2 to 4 degrees warmer at 34 feet, at least in some locations.
Friday morning should have mostly clear skies and little to no wind with widespread temperatures in the 28 to 31 degree range. Coldest locations will near 27. Most locations Saturday morning will modify into the low to mid 30s with a chance of isolated locations near 29. Sunday and Monday will be above freezing. At least local frost could occur Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, depending on sky cover, with above freezing temperatures thereafter.
