Summary: Plenty of cloud cover remains over the south valley this morning. These clouds are the upslope variety which formed overnight due to a northwest flowdown the valley. At Bakersfield, the base of the cloud deck is 6,500 feet while at Porterville the base is 7,500 feet. These clouds will slowly mix out during the course of the day as a trough of low pressure pulls off to the east. Cooler air overspread the valley over the past 24 hours. This will result in temperatures in the mid to upper 60s this afternoon. Fear not as warmer times are ahead beginning Friday and continuing over the weekend. Upper level high pressure over the eastern Pacific will build eastward and dominate our weather pattern through Monday. a trough of low pressure will move through the Pacific Northwest Monday night and Tuesday. For the second day in a row, blended model information shows showers spreading to a Monterey/Merced/Yosemite line but shows dry weather for the majority of central California. Another cool down will occur with readings dropping from near 80 Monday to the upper 60s Wednesday and Thursday.
Forecast: Partly to mostly cloudy in Kern and Tulare Counties this morning. Mostly clear elsewhere. Mostly clear this afternoon through Sunday night. Increasing cloudiness late Monday. variable cloudiness Tuesday through Wednesday wth a slight chance of light showers Tuesday and Tuesday night in Merced County. Partly cloudy Wednesday night and Thursday.

Two Week Outlook: April 19 through April 25: This model has reverted back to a cooler and possibly wetter pattern as the storm track moves a bit further south. There is a reasonable chance of precipitation during this period.
April: This model is showing a dominant westerly flow during the month, resulting in below average temperatures. The main storm track will be through the Pacific Northwest and the northern one-fourth of California. Central California is just south of that zone with predicted near average precipitation.
April, May, June: The 90 day outlook calls for generally near to below average precipitation as we head into the dry season. The model doesn’t swing in either direction regarding temperatures, calling for near average temperatures.
Wind Discussion: Winds will be mainly out of the northwest at 8 to 15 mph through early this evening. Late tonight through Sunday, winds will be mainly out of the northwest afternoons and evenings to 12 mph. during the night and morning hours, winds will be variable to 7 mph with periods of near calm conditions.
Rain Discussion: Expect dry weather through at least Monday night. For the second day in a row, models show showers moving down to a Monterey/Merced/Yosemite line any time from early Tuesday through Wednesday. The remainder of the growing area will remain dry. After Wednesday, a dry pattern will return.
