Summary: We find ourselves on the eastern rim of upper level high pressure located just off shore. This will result in a significant warming trend over the next 72 hours. The freezing level taken over Vandenburg overnight was 10,300 feet, which was roughly a 3,000 foot rise over the past 24 hours, indicating warmer air aloft is building in. Models this morning show a chance to reach the first 100 degree days of the year, especially Monday and Tuesday. However, even as early as Saturday readings will soar into the mid to upper 90s. a weak upper low will develop over western Colorado Saturday then will retrograde back towards the west/northwest. This morning’s models show a more northerly path for this system which will end up over Oregon Monday and Tuesday. The result will be a reduction in the chance of scattered thunderstorms and showers over the mountains this weekend and early next week. models maintain strong high pressure over California for much of next week, resulting in a prolonged periods of warm temperatures and dry conditions.
