Forecast

January 10, 2018/pm report

January 10, 2018

Summary: Low clouds continue the gray overcast in Kern County and southeastern Tulare County.  Elsewhere, there is some sunshine but not much as higher clouds stream over the area from the northwest.  Skies will begin to clear on a widespread basis once we get beyond Thursday morning.  Warmer air aloft is already moving over the valley floor.  The freezing level at Vandenberg yesterday at this time was 6,900 feet.  Today it’s 12,200 feet.

Strong upp9er level high pressure will continue Friday and at least through Monday night.  With the high and the warm air inversion that it will create, extensive fog and low clouds will no doubt form and temperatures will respond accordingly.  By Tuesday, a weak weather system will be moving through northern California.  Models continue to indicate the precipitation from this system, what little there is, will remain to our north.  Upper level high pressure will jump right back in for night and morning fog with afternoon clearing.

The two week model is giving a better chance of precipitation for central California, but in the meantime dry conditions will prevail.

Forecast: Partly to mostly cloudy tonight.  partly cloudy, especially in Kern County, Thursday morning.  Mostly clear Thursday afternoon through Monday night with widespread fog and low clouds possible Friday through Monday morning.  Partly cloudy Tuesday through Wednesday with areas of night and morning fog.
