Summary: Temperatures at midday are running a degree or two cooler than 24 hours ago. Pressures aloft have weakened slightly above central California. Skies are clear over most of California. The only exception is northwest California where clouds are increasing ahead of the next weather system which will pound the Pacific Northwest over the weekend. Our next real pattern change will be Monday through Tuesday night. Most models place us on the southern limit of a trough of low pressure moving through the Pacific Northwest and northern California.
The chance of showers for Merced County appears a bit higher for Monday night and early Tuesday. There’s even a slight chance of scattered light showers further south. Temperatures will also trend downward beginning Sunday, returning the valley to more seasonal readings for most of next week. another trough will move through about Friday night or Saturday for another minimal chance of showers all the way down the valley.
Forecast: Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy through Monday morning. Increasing cloudiness Monday afternoon leading to a slight chance of showers from Fresno County south Monday night and Tuesday with a greater risk of light showers from Fresno County north. Partly cloudy Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night. Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Wednesday through Friday morning. Increasing cloudiness Friday afternoon leading to a chance of showers Friday night.

Winds: Winds through this evening will be mainly out of the northwest at 8 to 15 mph with stronger gusts along the west side. Winds later tonight through Monday will be mainly at or less than 10 mph with periods of near calm conditions.
Rain: The risk factor for light showers Monday night and Tuesday appears higher now from Merced County north. I’m even ready to add a slight chance of showers down to Kern County during this time frame. There’s also a chance of showers over the entire valley Friday night and Saturday. Otherwise, expect dry weather tonight through Monday and from Wednesday through Friday.
Frost: All locations will be above freezing tonight and each night through at least the next 7 to 10 days.
