Summary: Upper level high pressure is now in firm control of California’s weather. The center of the high is actually roughly 500 miles to the southwest of Los Angeles with a ridge extending northeastward into northern California and southern Oregon. The high will protect California from storminess through Monday. There are timing differences in models regarding a major pattern change coming up Tuesday. The GFS model is about 24 hours later in the onset of rain. Instead of precipitation arriving Wednesday, the arrival time has been pushed off until Thursday of next week. a huge trough of low pressure will extend from the Yukon Territory of Canada all the way southward to southern California by next Friday. A secondary low shows up off the coast of the Pacific Northwest and northern California by Friday. It will meander in that general position through next weekend. The bottom line is active weather will prevail from possibly Wednesday but definitely Thursday of next week and on through next weekend.
Forecast: Partly cloudy tonight with areas of fog and low clouds developing. Areas of night and morning fog and low clouds, otherwise it will be mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy with areas of fog and low clouds through Monday. mostly cloudy Tuesday and Tuesday night. A chance of rain Wednesday. Rain becoming likely Wednesday night and at times through Friday.

Winds: Winds will be generally at or less than 6 mph with periods of near calm conditions through Sunday
Rain: Dry weather will continue through at least Tuesday night. We’ll put Wednesday in the chance of rain category as one of the main models has pushed back the arrival of precipitation until Thursday. Regardless, models continue to indicate a major precipitation event beginning the middle of next week and lasting through next weekend, if not beyond.
Frost: I’m not ready to put frost in the forecast as of yet. One model shows lows in the 30s coming up a week from Saturday. Even though these models are showing colder weather arriving next weekend, along with it will be active weather with showers. So for now we’ll go with above freezing temps while watching conditions for next Friday and beyond.
