April 12, 2024
Summary today is the last day under a dome of high pressure as the high will give way to a developing low off the coast of the Pacific Northwest. This storm will be the catalyst for all kinds of interesting weather Saturday through Sunday. Models move the center of circulation to just west of San Francisco Saturday and almost directly overhead Saturday night and Sunday morning. With a pool of cool, unstable air just above the valley floor, thunderstorm activity appears to be a given Saturday afternoon and evening. These spring storms will be accompanied by brief heavy rain and small hail. Freezing levels, which are currently at 11,500 feet will plummet to near 5,000 feet Saturday night and Sunday. The low will move across southern California Sunday and into the Desert Southwest Monday. This will allow a ridge of high pressure to begin building in from the west. However, a weak area of low pressure will move into the Pacific Northwest, keeping temperatures fairly moderate with only marginally above average temperatures by Thursday. Longer range models show the dry pattern continuing with no excessively warm weather is expected for the next week to ten days.
Forecast Mostly clear skies today. Increasing clouds and breezy tonight. Numerous showers and a chance for afternoon thunderstorms Saturday and Saturday evening. Showers Saturday night and Sunday morning. a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms Sunday afternoon. Partly cloudy Sunday night and Monday morning. mostly clear Monday afternoon through Friday.

Two Week Forecast: April 20 through April 26: This model is indicating a fairly dominant ridge of high pressure will be over California. The chance of rain appears to be very low during this period while temperatures will be above average.
Thirty Day Report: This model gives equal chances of above and below average temperatures for the month of April. The chance of precipitation is slightly above average for the month.
Ninety Day Report: As we enter the dry season, this model predicts precipitation will be above or below average. There is no real trend to grab onto, so temperatures are expected to be near seasonal average.
Winds: Winds will be light this morning then will be out of the southwest at 10 to 20 mph this afternoon and tonight. Winds Saturday will be out of the west to northwest at 15 to 20 mph at times with stronger gusts. Winds Saturday will be mainly out of the northwest at 10 to 20 mph with stronger gusts. Winds Sunday will be mainly out of the northwest at 10 to 15 mph with stronger gusts. Winds Sunday night and Monday will be generally at or less than 12 mph with periods of near calm conditions.
Rain: Dry weather will continue through tonight. Numerous showers and a chance for thunderstorms will arrive Saturday, becoming numerous Saturday afternoon and evening. Assuming there are breaks in the overcast, allowing sunshine to reach the earth and send warm air currents skyward, thunderstorms will be a distinct possibility, especially between 2:00 and 7:00 pm. Localized heavy rain and small hail will be the main threats with this system. Showers will continue Saturday night into Sunday morning with a slight chance of thunderstorms Sunday afternoon. Dry weather will return Sunday night followed by six to ten days of dry weather. Rainfall amounts from this storm should range somewhere between a quarter and one-half inch at most locations. More is certainly possible in the vicinity of thunderstorms.
Mid afternoon dew points: Mid to upper 40s. Kern: Mid to upper 40s.
