Summary  A low pressure center is off the coast of the Pacific Northwest this morning. This low will move southwestward into northern California then into western Nevada Sunday afternoon. Showers will spread down the Sierra Nevada, more than likely leaving central California dry but much cooler. Clouds will begin to increase today as the marine layer deepens and surges down the valley. By Sunday afternoon, the low will have slid into the eastern Great Basin then into the Rocky Mountain area by Monday night. an elongated trough of low pressure will follow which will maintain below average temperatures through Tuesday. By Wednesday, a ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific will build into California as a trough of low pressure remains stationary over the interior west. This will allow temperatures to rebound into the 80s Thursday. Some models project temperatures near 90 by Friday and Saturday.

Forecast Increasing cloudiness or showers becoming likely, mainly this afternoon. Showers tonight, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy Sunday morning. clearing during the afternoon. Mostly clear Sunday night through Saturday.

Two Week Forecast:  May 9 through May 15: This model indicates high pressure off the California coast. A trough of low pressure will be over the interior west. There will be a chance of showers during this time frame, mainly over the mountains along with marginally above average temperatures.

Thirty Day Report: This model indicates a better than even chance of above average precipitation. Near average temperatures are expected overall as an early summer type pattern begins to take shape.

Ninety Day Report: As we move into the dry season, temperatures will be the main concern. Currently it appears readings will be generally above average. The chance of rain at any given time is extremely low.

Winds: Winds will be mainly out of the northwest at 8 to 15 mph through Tuesday. Local gusts to 20 mph are possible, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours.

Rain: Most of the shower activity from this upcoming storm will be confined to the Sierra Nevada. It’s possible a few light showers may skirt the far eastern side of the valley. Outside of that, conditions will remain dry. Expect dry weather for this upcoming week. there’s nothing on models suggesting precipitation in the longer term.
