Summary: Temperatures as of 6:00am were running 3 to 5 degrees warmer than 24 hours ago.  The marine layer along the coast has shrunk back to around 1,500 feet and I noted winds through Pacheco Pass are only out of the west at 10 MPH, indicating no sea breeze is moving through the Coast Range.  Winds at Fairfield are also weak.

There is a note of interest, however, on forecast models this morning.  They show a large upper high blanketing the western U.S., however embedded within this high is a zone of weakness which yesterday set off thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada.  It has also turned the winds aloft easterly.  This is moving some cloud cover over the valley floor.  No precipitation is expected with the exception of the Sierra Nevada where thunderstorms will again be present.

The low is forecast to move into southern California by Sunday, allowing a westerly flow to break through by early next week.  And speaking of early next week, a new trough of low pressure will develop along the west coast, lowering temperatures to near average and, with a little luck, maybe even a few degrees below average.  Through the weekend, though, readings will be near the century mark in many areas.

Forecast:  Clear skies through Monday with occasional cloudiness through Saturday.  Mostly clear skies will continue Monday night through Friday.

Two Week Outlook: August 25 through August 31:  This model indicates a trough of low pressure will be off shore during the early part of the period.  It will then form another low over Nevada.  This poses little if any chance of precipitation, but it would maintain a westerly flow with a possibly deep marine layer which would allow temperatures to slide a bit below average.

September:  This model shows upper level high pressure more dominant over the western U.S.  There’s no clear indicator of above or below average rainfall as we move into the fall season.  With that in mind, we’ll call for near average precipitation for the month.

September, October, November:  It appears temperatures overall will rise to above average values for the bulk of this time frame.  Upper level high pressure is also more dominant with precipitation, believe it or not, predicted to be somewhat near average.

Winds: Winds will be generally less than 15 MPH through Monday and mainly out of the northwest afternoons and evenings.

Rain: Expect dry weather for the foreseeable future.
