October 3, 2017
Summary: There will be a couple of gorgeous fall days ahead. Upper level low pressure is centered over northern California this morning and may spread some light showers down the northern and central Sierra Nevada later this afternoon and tonight with a dusting of snow up high. The low has also caused a strong on shore pressure gradient, moving plenty of marine air into the valley. Most locations will temperatures in the mid to upper 70s this afternoon and only lower 80s Wednesday and Thursday.
Models show the low moving northeastward into Nevada by Wednesday morning, allowing upper level high pressure over the eastern Pacific to begin to build slowly eastward into California. With the low over the interior west, the winds will become off shore Thursday and Friday.
Over the weekend, readings will rise to above average values with some of the warmer locations teasing with the 90 degree mark. Gusty winds along the west side will pick up today as the difference in pressure between the eastern Pacific and the interior west increases. That will be a short lived component as that high will clamp down, returning light winds to the interior valley as early as Wednesday.
Longer term, there is not much to talk about as upper level high pressure continues to dominate in one way, shape, or form. There’s no precipitation in sight with temperatures generally being somewhat above average.
Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Friday. Mostly clear skies will continue Friday night through Tuesday.

Two Week Outlook: October 9 through October 15: This model is indicating a low pressure system will be over the interior west with a possible off shore flow over interior California. This pattern always results in dry weather with temperatures at least marginally above average.
October: The month of October, according to the latest models, will have generally or at least marginally above average temperatures as high pressure remains over the Desert Southwest. The Pacific Northwest will have above average precipitation and above average temperatures. Central California will be squeezed between these two systems, so it appears we’ll have an equal chance of rain for the month, which shouldn’t range too far from average.
October, November, December: Looking out to October through December, models show marginally above average temperatures for central and southern California. Models also indicate precipitation will be near average with the main storm track moving through the Pacific Northwest.
Winds: Winds will be generally out of the northwest at 5 to 15 MPH today and tonight. Winds on the west side, however, will see winds out of the northwest at 15 to 25 MPH with stronger gusts, diminishing later tonight with winds of generally 5 to 10 MPH throughout the valley Wednesday through Friday.
Rain: Expect dry conditions indefinitely.
