February 6, 2018
Summary: Visibilities this afternoon are again running about 3 to 5 miles up and down the line. Temperatures are moving into the lower 70s so definitely some mid 70s will occur, especially in the south valley. Strong upper level high pressure will remain unabated through Friday night, sealing our fate with a warm air inversion which will trap a lot of haze on the valley floor and result in more patchy fog tomorrow morning. Models for the weekend are still in a state of war with one another. However, the system coming in Sunday appears weaker and will come through as a trough of low pressure rather than a closed low. This would definitely cool us down, but not to the degree earlier thought. Another system will move through as a trough about Tuesday. The main difference from models this morning is the fact that the lion’s share of the energy will move into the interior west rather than California. This would pretty much eliminate any chance of precipitation for central California. Models for the rest of next week are still indicating a blocking ridge will be along the west coast for dry weather for the next week to possibly ten days.
Forecast: Patchy morning fog, mainly north of Kern County, otherwise it’ll be mostly clear and hazy through Friday night. mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Saturday and at times through Tuesday.

Winds: Winds will be generally less than 10 MPH with periods of near calm conditions through Friday night. Winds Saturday will be generally out of the north to northwest at 8 to 15 MPH with gusts to 25 MPH along the west side.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for at least the next seven to ten days.
Frost Discussion: All locations will be above freezing tonight through Saturday morning. Models this afternoon do not look quite as cold as they did earlier today. The low pressure system coming through Sunday will move through as a weak trough rather than a closed low which would have colder air associated with it. Another similar weak system will move through about Tuesday, but again, it does not look as cold as it did. The coldest air will remain east of the Sierra Nevada. For now, it would appear mid to upper 30s would be more likely Sunday through Tuesday with a chance of lower 30s. a warming trend will set up Wednesday and continue through the weekend.
