Summary: A layer of high clouds based at 25,000 feet is resulting in filtered sunshine this afternoon. These clouds are cirrus and made of ice. They are not a precursor of any storminess. Over the eastern Pacific, there’s a great deal of cloud cover off shore, some of which will overrun the high, resulting in periods of high clouds from time to time through Monday. The upper high off shore has actually shifted a bit further east, putting it almost directly overhead this afternoon. As a result, temperatures aloft continue to warm. The freezing level has jumped another 1,000 feet and is up to 14,800 feet. The mountain areas are nice and balmy this afternoon. Shaver Lake is reporting a temperature of 63 degrees at 5,500 feet.
The upper high will continue to dominate our pattern through Thursday night then will begin to break down Friday. Some of the models have backed off on the chance for rain this coming weekend, however others remain adamant about precipitation riding a moist jet stream right into California. Through Friday, dry weather will persist with pleasant afternoon temperatures which will range between 6 and 10 degrees above average for late January. Enjoy!
Forecast: Mostly clear through Sunday night with high, thin clouds overhead from time to time. Variable cloudiness at times Monday through Tuesday night. mostly clear Wednesday through Thursday night. increasing cloudiness Friday. Mostly cloudy Friday night and Saturday with a slight chance of rain.

Winds: Winds will be generally at or less than 6 MPH with extended periods of near calm conditions through Tuesday.
Rain: Expect dry weather through Friday. Over the weekend and into the following week, modeling information ranges from a blocking ridge of high pressure to a moist west/southwest flow resulting in significant rain. Some models have backed on the possibility of precipitation while others have not. For now, the best thing to do is to call for a small chance of rain beginning Friday night and tweak the forecast as we head through the week.
Frost Discussion: All locations will be above 32 degrees tonight and each night for the next week to possibly ten days.
