Forecast

November 6, 2019/pm update

November 6, 2019

Summary: As of 1:00pm, both Bakersfield and porterville were at 79 degrees while at Castle Air Force Base at Merced showed a temperature of a balmy 81.  Dew points continue to creep up as they range in the mid 30s to even the lower 40s in some cases, so most locations in the ag region will only drop into the 40s with some of the coldest locations still in the upper 30s.

In the broad picture, upper level high pressure remains over the eastern Pacific and the western one-third of the U.S.  The flow around the eastern side of the high is out of the northwest.  This will begin to change later this weekend, becoming northerly as the high builds into the Gulf of Alaska and even into the Yukon Territory of Canada by Tuesday.  This will allow an unusually cool air mass to dive southward over the Rockies, but more especially over the Midwest where temperatures could drop to 30 degrees below average.

We are on the flip side as temperatures will be well above average.  That off shore flow early next week could move temperatures even higher, although if that occurs, nothing excessive is expected.  Medium range models look less optimistic this afternoon regarding a chance for rain.  Some models continue to show a low moving through northern and central California with a chance of showers to our north.  Instead of opening the door to further storminess, another ridge is showing building into the Gulf of Alaska, starting the same old weather pattern all over again.  It’s very common for medium range models to flip flop, though, so we’ll have to see what models have to say tomorrow.

Forecast: Clear skies through Saturday.  Clear skies will continue Saturday night through Wednesday.
