November 6, 2019
Summary: There are actually some high clouds dotting the sky this morning to break up the hazy, clear skies we’ve been accustomed to. These clouds are simply caught up in the northwesterly flow aloft and mean nothing as far as active weather is concerned. The freezing level is right where it was yesterday at 13,300 feet with the marine layer at Monterey up just a tad at 1,200 feet.
In the big picture, upper level high pressure blankets the eastern Pacific Ocean and the western one-third of the U.S. The surface flow remains slightly off shore and will increase a tad over the weekend, but no impact is seen as far as lowering dew points this time around.
Upper level high pressure will remain in place well into next week. Some models are trending towards a possible major change in the pattern around the 17th. On paper, the high would break down, letting a strong westerly flow aloft across the eastern Pacific move into California. Theoretically, that would bring precipitation to the northern half of the state, possibly even further south, about the 20th. This is a shaky outlook at best, but considering we’re long overdue for a pattern change, and the fact that some models have been pretty persistent about the idea, gives me just a little hope that rain may be on the distant horizon. Until then, temperatures will be a good 10 degrees above average each day with temperatures in the upper 70s to the lower 80s.
Forecast: Clear skies with occasional high clouds through Saturday. Mostly clear with some occasional high clouds Saturday night through Wednesday.

Two Week Outlook: November 13 through November 19: This model does not give much hope for precipitation through mid November. Upper level high pressure will be dominant over the eastern Pacific and the western third of the U.S. for above average temperatures.
November: The greatest possibility of above average temperatures will stretch from Texas westward to southern California with somewhat above average temperatures expected for central California. This model also projects a drier than average month, especially over the northern half of the state.
December, January, February: This model, as it always does, indicates above average temperatures for much of the lower 48, especially over the southwestern U.S. This model also dashes somewhat the hope for a good rainfall season as it shows below average precipitation for the Pacific Northwest and much of California.
Winds: Winds will be generally at or less than 8 MPH with periods of near calm conditions through Saturday.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for at least the next 7 to 10 days.
Frost Discussion: All locations will be above freezing tonight and each night for the foreseeable future.
Lows Tonight:
All locations will be above 32 tonight.
