Forecast

November 8, 2019/pm update

November 7, 2019

Summary: Another clear but very hazy afternoon in the valley with crystal clear skies elsewhere.  The center of the upper high this afternoon remains right over northern California with a weak low center at the upper levels of the atmosphere west of northern Baja.  That has created a weak easterly flow over the southern half of California which is really meaningless as far as valley weather is concerned.  The high will marginally weaken over the weekend so most locations will drop maybe 1 to 3 degrees but that’s all then possibly warm to near 80 again Monday and Tuesday.  As that low off the Baja coast moves inland Monday and Tuesday, some models show some tropical moisture trying to move into the southern ¼ of California.  For now, though, it doesn’t look like it will affect central California.

On Friday and Saturday of next week, some kind of low pressure system will at least tease us.  Some models indicate this feature will move southward parallel to the coast then inland through northern Baja about a week from Monday or so.  One model actually shows a sharp ridge of high pressure jutting from southwest to northeast across the central Pacific and into northcentral Canada while a low develops over southern Nevada.  If this pattern does shape up, a cold, dry pipeline of air would develop possibly moving cold modified arctic air into the valley.  Right now, I’m not taking this too seriously as it only shows up on one model, a model that has been very inconsistent recently.  Nevertheless, when I see this during frost season, I get a bit jumpy.

Forecast: Mostly clear skies and hazy through Monday night.  Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Tuesday through Thursday.  Variable cloudiness Thursday night and Friday.
