Summary: The center of circulation of strong upper level high pressure is just to the southwest of Santa Maria this morning. the marine layer, as a result, has peeled back to just 400 feet at Monterey while the freezing level is just under 15,000 feet, close to summer like configurations. Yesterday, temperatures briefly dropped back into the mid to upper 80s, however look for most locations to eclipse the 90 degree mark again this afternoon and especially Wednesday afternoon as the center of the high crosses the southern half of California. In fact, highs Wednesday will reach into the mid to upper 90s for the first time this spring season.
The high will slowly shift eastward into the Desert Southwest Thursday as a weak trough of low pressure approaches the west coast. This system wil spread showers over the Pacific Northwest and far northern California, but the main impact on central California will be slowly weakening pressures aloft and a deepening marine layer along the coast which will slowly infiltrate the valley beginning Thursday. An even stronger trough will move through the western U.S. over the weekend, finally returning temperatures to near seasonal averages. In fact, temperatures should drop into the mid to upper 70s during the late part of the weekend and into early next week, but any precipitation will remain well north of our neck of the woods.
Some models show another ridge building along the west coast beginning Tuesday. This should cause temperatures to once again rise to above average by the middle part of next week. Still nothing medium or longer term suggesting any chance of precipitation.
Forecast: Clear skies through Wednesday and warmer. Mostly clear Wednesday night through Sunday with a slow cooling trend. Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Monday through Tuesday.

Two Week Outlook: May 5 through May 11: This model indicates a dominant ridge of upper level high pressure will be over the eastern Pacific and California, resulting in above average temperatures. The chance of rain during this timeframe appears to be very low.
May: The first month of the dry season will be typically dry, in other words this model is portraying near average precipitation for the month of May. It also appears the trend of above average temperatures will continue for the month.
May, June, July: Obviously, over the next 90 days precipitation will be largely nonexistent with the usual few exceptions, mainly during the month of May. Models show the western half of the U.S. having generally above average temperatures.
Winds Discussion: Winds during the late morning through the evening hours will be generally at or less than 12 MPH and mainly out of the northwest. Winds during the night and morning hours will be generally less than 7 MPH with periods of near calm conditions through Wednesday night. Winds Thursday and Friday will be out of the northwest at 10 to 15 MPH with local gusts to 20 MPH, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours.
Rain Discussion: Expect dry conditions for the next 7 to 10 days.
