Summary: The marine layer along the coast has deepened from near 1,000 feet yesterday to more than 3,000 feet this morning. a weak push of marine air is moving through the Delta. Winds there are out of the southwest sustained at 18 MPH. At Pacheco Pass, winds are out of the west, sustained at 16 MPH.
Currently, there’s roughly a 4 millibar difference in pressure between San Francisco and Las Vegas. That will increase rapidly today and tonight as a trough of low pressure moves into northern and central California. Ahead of the cold front, there is a considerable amount of mid and high level clouds.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will develop along the Sierra Nevada this afternoon and evening from Kings Canyon northward. The main impact will be much cooler temperatures this weekend as the valley pools with modified marine air and cooler air moves in aloft. The low will track northeastward Sunday.
Low pressure will remain over and off the coast of the Pacific Northwest Monday through Thursday of next week while a zone of weak upper level high pressure dominates the pattern over California with a weak, dry, westerly flow aloft. This will be conducive for early summer weather.
Forecast: Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy through Saturday morning. mostly clear Saturday afternoon through Sunday. Mostly clear Sunday night through Friday.
