Summary: Low pressure has migrated northeastward into southcentral Canada with a weak trough extending southwestward into the parent low in Utah and northeast Nevada. In the meantime, upper level high pressure over the eastern Pacific is slowly building eastward. Most locations over the higher elevations of the Kern County mountains and the Sierra Nevada are anywhere from 7 to 10 degrees warmer than 24 hours ago.
The marine layer along the coast has shrunk back to near 500 feet, according to the U,S. Navy at Monterey.
We are heading into what will become a prolonged period of hot weather. Hottest locations Friday afternoon will be nearing the century mark with most locations in the lower 100s over the weekend. It’s beginning to appear that the classic Four Corners high, a common summer feature, will set up shop beginning Monday and lasting through at least Thursday. That high will interconnect with high pressure over the eastern Pacific for triple digit readings through at least Thursday of next week. A weak low will approach the northern California coast about Friday of next week. Some models show this system moving inland while others show it remaining off shore due to the high over the Desert Southwest. So, get ready for summer in the San Joaquin Valley. This time around, it will be here to stay awhile.
Forecast: Clear skies through Monday. Mostly clear Monday night through Thursday.
