We will be out of the office Saturday, July 4. Reports will
resume Monday, July 6. Have a safe and blessed holiday weekend!
Summary: Central California will continue to be sandwiched between persistent low pressure over western Canada with a weak trough of low pressure extending as far south as northern California and upper level high pressure which is currently expanding westward through the Desert Southwest. Over the past 24 hours, modified marine air has been sneaking down the valley. However, the marine layer has decreased by about 800 feet from 24 hours ago. The latest sounding at Monterey points to a depth of right at 2,000 feet. ‘
Winds at the Delta are currently sustained at 20 MPH, gusting to 30. The high over the southwest is expanding westward into southern California. This will result in a hot Fourth of July weekend down there. High pressure above central California will increase marginally through the weekend so temperatures may tease with the century mark at the hottest locations both Saturday and Sunday.
Models show the trough to our north sagging a bit southward early next week, which should allow a minor influx of marine air to return. Some models indicate the high will finally win out by next weekend.
What does all this mean for the valley? Not much. Typical cloudless skies under a dry southwesterly flow aloft.
Forecast: Clear skies through Monday. Clear skies will continue Monday night through Friday.

Two Week Outlook: July 10 through July 16: This model indicates upper level high pressure will cover much of the western U.S. with the exception of the Pacific Northwest. This pattern will continue a dry southwesterly flow aloft along with marginally above average temperatures.
July: This model indicates warmer than average temperatures over the next four weeks. The usual dry pattern will prevail in the San Joaquin Valley with the chance of precipitation on any given day being almost nil. Average precipitation for the month is .01.
July, August, September: This time of year, the 90 day out look is no secret. July and August will be hot and dry while September has a minor risk of precipitation, mainly from the tropics. This out look appears fairly typical. Marginally above average temperatures are expected with near average precipitation, which is a meaningless projection.
Winds Discussion: During the afternoons and evenings, winds will be mainly out of the northwest at 5 to 12 MPH. During the night and morning hours, winds will be generally variable to 7 MPH with periods of near calm conditions.
Rain Discussion: Expect dry conditions for the next 7 to 10 days.
