Summary: The combination of smoke and some high clouds yesterday lowered temperatures a few degrees below model expectations. That will continue to be a challenge over the next several days. The Mammoth Creek fire and others burning around the state will continue to result in very poor air quality and low visibility.
Upper level high pressure continues to hover over California with a low pressure system several hundred miles off the Oregon/northern California coast. Most models this morning show the high firming up just a bit for a slow warming trend over the weekend. Average temperatures have fallen into the low 90s and it appears we will be right around 2 to 3 degrees near that level beginning Sunday.
By Wednesday, a low pressure system will be approaching the northern California coast. It will move slowly across northern California Thursday and Friday. This should allow a burst of marine air to move down the valley Thursday along with lowering pressure aloft for our next cooling trend. Some models suggest readings in the mid to upper 80s by the latter part of next week.
Winds aloft will be mainly out of the west or southwest next week, continuing to prevent moisture from moving in from the south.
Forecast: Mostly clear but hazy through Monday. Mostly clear and hazy Tuesday through Friday.
