May 4, 2021

Temperatures over the higher elevations are running several degrees higher than 24 hours ago.  Sandburg at an elevation of 4,100’ is 5 degrees warmer while Blue Canyon at 5,600 feet is 8 degrees warmer.  The freezing level taken above Oakland is now up to 13,700 feet while the marine layer at Monterey is currently at 900 feet with no sea breeze moving through the Delta.

Upper level high pressure will dominate our pattern for the next 48 hours as temperatures move well into the 90s.  the high will begin to shift eastward Thursday.  The marine layer will respond and deepen enough to surge through the Delta and eventually through other gaps and passes through the Coast Range Thursday night and Friday for noticeably cooler weather.  Readings will fall back into the low to mid 80s.

Most forecast models this morning show a weak trough of low pressure over the western states through at least Saturday night then high pressure over the eastern Pacific will finally begin to nose in from the west by next Tuesday for our next warming trend. Skies will remain most clear through the entire forecast period.

Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Saturday.  Mostly clear Saturday night through Tuesday.
