A trough of low pressure continues to stretch from British Columbia southward into the Desert Southwest. Surface pressure remains much higher over Oregon and northern California than over southern Nevada. The current altimeter reading at Medford, Oregon is 30.36 inches of mercury while at Las Vegas the reading is currently 29.74. This will mean gusty winds will continue, especially over higher elevations, but even on the valley floor winds will continue out of the northwest occasionally gusting to more than 20 MPH, especially along the west side. A northwest flow aloft will continue between the trough over the interior and upper level high pressure off shore. That high will slowly begin to build inland by late Monday and will dominate our weather through at least Friday of next week for much above average temperatures, especially Wednesday through Friday when readings could tease with the century mark.
Most medium range models show a weak trough moving through California next weekend for what could be our next cooling trend. The two week model is also indicating low pressure over the west for possibly below average temperatures, bucking the trend of recent weeks.
