Temperatures early this morning have dropped to 39 degrees at Lindsay, Orange Cove, and Sanger. All other locations are in the low to mid 40s. Temperatures will begin to head north again today as the center of circulation has now moved into central Nevada. The freezing level this morning over Oakland is still very low at 7,400 feet but is roughly 1,100 feet higher than yesterday at this time.
Models show the center of this storm moving into Wyoming and southern Montana Sunday, allowing a weak zone of upper level high pressure to build in from the west for the beginning of a warming trend. In fact, warmest locations will be teasing with the 90 degree mark as early as Monday.
Winds will be somewhat stronger than normal today. However, there’s only roughly a 5 millibar difference in pressure between San Francisco and Las Vegas. Light winds will return to the valley tonight through Tuesday.
The fact that central California remains on the western periphery of this system means scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue over the high Sierra for one more day. A weak trough of low pressure will move through the Pacific Northwest at midweek, shaving off a few degrees from temperatures. Models vary a great deal on the pattern for next weekend, however it appears temperatures will be close to average with no chance of precipitation this upcoming week and more than likely longer.
Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Wednesday. Mostly clear Wednesday night through Saturday.

Two Week Outlook: May 28 through June 3: This model is now depicting a ridge of upper level high pressure along the west coast, resulting in at least marginally above average temperatures. For now it appears dry conditions will continue.
June: This model is indicating a ridge of upper level high pressure will be more dominant over the Desert Southwest and, to a lesser extent, California, resulting in above average temperatures for the month with the usual dry conditions prevailing.
June, July, August: This model mimics the pattern of recent years, indicating high pressure over the Desert Southwest being the most dominant feature, resulting in above average temperatures. Theoretically, this pattern blocks monsoonal moisture from moving northward. Typically, there’s little to no precipitation anyway, and that will be the case this summer.
Winds Discussion: Winds today will be mainly out of the northwest at 8 to 15 MPH with gusts to near 20 MPH possible this afternoon and evening. Winds tonight through Tuesday will be mainly out of the northwest afternoons and evenings at around 8 to 15 MPH with light winds during the night and morning hours and periods of near calm conditions.
Rain Discussion: Expect dry conditions for at least the next 7 to 10 days.
Afternoon Dew Points Today: Low to mid 30s. Upper 20s to the lower 30s.
