We met with John’s oncologist Tuesday and the news was what we expected, only hoped we wouldn’t hear. John has (here’s the technical stuff) a Stage 1A thymoma in his right lung. In other words, he has a 1.5 inch cancerous mass in his right lung. The good news to this is that thymomas are slow growing. Like the mass removed previously, it’s been there quite a while.
John begins chemo June 16. He’ll initially receive treatment once every three weeks for three months. No radiation. After three months he’ll undergo another PET scan to see how the tumor is progressing. We asked the oncologist about side effects of the chemo and she was very upfront about it, telling us that he can expect nausea, fatigue, and possibly hair loss. John was especially saddened by the latter as his hair is finally growing back following his head needing to be shaved in March. ?
At this point, we anticipate few, if any, interruptions in service. We may occasionally need to take a day off due to doctor/imaging appointments and/or reports may be later than usual due to the same. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on this journey as we go.
We’ve received so much love and support from all of you the past few months that it’s been overwhelming. We thank you for that.
Trudy and John
