A trough of low pressure is currently moving through the Pacific Northwest. The front and its associated trough of low pressure are maintaining a southwest flow over California. This will result in near average temperatures through Wednesday. For Thursday and Friday, the air quality over central California should begin to become more palatable as that southwest flow aloft sweeps the smoke into Nevada. As upper level high pressure over the eastern Pacific slowly builds a bit further north and east, temperatures will begin to rise. This will be most notable over the weekend as lower 100s will again be the norm. the surface winds along the coast and up the valley are more southerly, so it appears the last area to clear will be along the eastern and northern flanks of the San Joaquin Valley. The high will eventually link up with a new building high over Texas. Again, we will be under a situation where pressures will be high along the southern tier of states with storms moving through British Columbia, clipping the Pacific Northwest and the northern Rockies.
Models for next week are pretty consistent. Somewhat above average temperatures will prevail along with mostly clear skies.
Forecast: outside of smoke aloft from time to time, it will be mostly clear through Wednesday. Mostly clear Wednesday night through next Monday with a slow warming trend.
Temperatures: Highs this afternoon and again Saturday afternoon will range in the low to mid 90s, climbing into the mid to upper 90s Sunday. Overnight lows will range in the mid 50s to the lower 60s.
