Tomorrow is chemo day for John, so we know we won’t be issuing a report. Sometime after this round, John’s oncologist will schedule another PET scan to get an idea of how the tumor is responding. We’ll keep you in the loop. Thanks for your continued prayers and good thoughts.

A broad area of low pressure continues to extend from western Canada southwestward into central California while strong upper level high pressure is centered over Texas.
As the week wears on, the high over Texas will expand into the Desert Southwest, bringing monsoonal moisture back into the picture. The winds aloft over southern California will become light and variable. By this coming Sunday, the high will extend from the Rockies westward over California. This will result in a significant warming trend beginning Friday. There are strong differences in model information on how far north the monsoonal moisture will progress. My feeling is that, by Monday, the chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms will increase over the southern Sierra Nevada.
As the high builds over California, triple digit temperatures will begin…possibly as early as Sunday but for sure by Monday.
The marine layer this morning is 2,000 feet deep. This will aid in cooling Merced County north, however, pressure differences between the coast and the interior are not strong enough to tug that sea breeze down the valley.
Forecast: Clear skies through Sunday. Mostly clear Sunday night through Tuesday with occasional high clouds.

Two Week Outlook: August 31 through September 6: this model indicates the monsoon will return to southern California. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms can be expected over the Desert Southwest and southern California during this period. Temperatures will trend back to above average.
September: This model indicates high pressure will be dominant over the desert southwest and California. The chance for precipitation will remain very low. Temperatures will be marginally above average.
September, October, November: If this model has any credence, the dominant pattern of the summer will continue. Expect temperatures to be marginally above average as we head into fall. Precipitation will generally be below average, although the chance will begin to increase as we head into November.
Winds Discussion: Winds during the afternoon and early evening hours will be mainly out of the west to northwest at 8 to 15 MPH. Winds during the night and morning hours will be variable with periods of near calm conditions.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for at least the next 7 to 10 days.
