Forecast

August 27, 2021/report

August 27, 2021

The slow warming trend will continue today as high pressure over the Desert Southwest links up with another high off shore.  Already, the marine layer at Monterey has shrunk back to 500 feet.  Winds in the Delta and at Pacheco Pass are light and variable at this hour.  Hottest locations this afternoon will approach the century mark then from Saturday through Monday, most locations will range from 101 to 106, according to a blend of forecast models.  The monsoonal flow, which is pretty much absent right now, will return early next week as a brief southeast flow develops over the southwest and southern California.  Most model information this morning indicates the moisture will generally stay in Arizona and the lower deserts of southern California.

The good news is that this heat wave will not be a prolonged one.  Tuesday should be the last day of triple digits as a fairly significant cooling trend begins Wednesday.  This will be the result of high pressure being suppressed southward and eastward.   As a trough of low pressure moves into the Pacific Northwest and California, the marine layer will rapidly deepen and a rather robust on shore flow will develop.  With some luck, we should be in the low to mid 90s next Thursday and Friday.

Forecast:   Mostly clear skies through Monday.  Mostly clear Monday night through Friday.
