Record heat in some places occurred on the valley floor yesterday. Lemoore soared to 110 with most locations between 105 and 109. It was an odd day all the way around as a batch of monsoonal moisture became entrained in a trough of low pressure moving through the Pacific Northwest and northern California. This added enough lift to the atmosphere for sprinkles to occur. Isolated pockets actually picked up measurable rain with Visalia picking up .03 and Fresno and Visalia .04. the marine layer has jumped up to 2,500 feet. As the onshore flow increases today, marine cooled air will move down the valley. Readings will fall from well above the century mark yesterday into the mid to upper 90s today through the weekend. As the trough moves through, upper level high pressure over the Desert Southwest will expand into southern California. In fact, an elongated trough of low pressure will stretch from off the southern California coast, eastward into the southern US. The main storm track will be zonal and will run through the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia.
Forecast: Partly cloudy this morning with a chance of a few sprinkles over and near the foothills. Mostly clear tonight through Sunday. Mostly clear Sunday night through Friday.

Two Week Outlook: September 17 through 23: This model indicates a trough of low pressure will dominate most of the western US, including California. Temperatures will begin to fall to near to even marginally below average, however precipitation will continue to be unlikely.
September: This model indicates high pressure will be dominant over the desert southwest and California. The chance for precipitation will remain very low. Temperatures will be marginally above average.

Precipitation will generally be below average, although the chance will begin to increase as we head into November.
