Forecast

October 26, 2021/report

October 26, 2021

Just about the entire San Joaquin Valley was soaked with an inch or more of precipitation yesterday.  To give you an idea how uniform the precipitation pattern was, amounts ranged from 1.08 at Parlier to 1.60 at Orange Cove.  Porterville picked up 1.34 and even Arvin, typically in the middle of the rain shadow, recorded  1,14.   Rainfall in the foothills and mountains generally ranged from 2 to 4 inches.

As they say, what a difference a day makes as yesterday’s storm, joined with thunderstorms, has already been replaced by mostly clear skies and patchy fog.  Visalia, Hanford, and Porterville were all  reporting .50 mile visibility  at last report, Bakersfield was overcast at 4,500 feet due to upsloping.  Upper level high pressure is trying to take shape off the southern California coast while a weak low moves into northern California.  Currently, Doppler radar is showing light showers along the coast and over the Mount Shasta/Siskiyou region with the remainder of California  reporting dry conditions.

The high off the south coast will expand eastward and northward over the next 72 hours, resulting in a warming trend, although temperatures will still remain below average.  By Friday night and  Saturday, a new low pressure system will move into northern California, possibly spreading showers down to a Monterey/Merced line, but for now it appears our region will remain dry.

Medium range models for next week are generally showing a blocking ridge pattern along the west coast with dry conditions with temperatures possibly struggling above average by next week.

Forecast:   Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy through tonight.  Remaining mostly cloudy in the south valley with patchy fog and low clouds.  Mostly clear Wednesday through Friday with a warming trend.  Partly cloudy Saturday through Sunday.  Mostly clear Monday and Tuesday.
