November 2, 2021/report

Due to ongoing health problems, (and ongoing and ongoing) two a day reports will be issued only on an as-needed basis during this year’s frost season.  We sincerely hope this doesn’t create any problems with your business.  As always, you can call for updates when you deem necessary.  Should a medical appointment cause us to be out of the office during the mornings, we will let you know.  Thank you once again for your continued patience.

November 2, 2021

The weather for the next week or so will be extremely quiet.  The main challenges will be patchy morning fog on the valley floor.  A strong westerly flow in the upper atmosphere remains over the eastern Pacific, steering moist Pacific storms into British Columbia, the Pacific Northwest, and northern California with central California remaining just south of the zone of active weather.

The next weather system will move inland Thursday.  Showers may spread as far south as a Bay Area/Sacramento line, but central California will just see partly cloudy skies at times.

Over the weekend, a strong area of low pressure will develop in the Gulf of Alaska, dropping into the Pacific Northwest by Monday and Tuesday.  By Tuesday night, a strong low will be centered just west of the Oregon coast, building a strong trough into central and southern California.  Expect precipitation over much of California Wednesday.  As is so often the case, this appears to be a one storm event.  Strong high pressure will build over the eastern Pacific and much of the western US Thursday and Friday of next week.

Forecast:   Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy through Monday night with patchy night and morning fog.  Increasing cloudiness Tuesday.  A chance of rain Tuesday night.

Two Week Outlook:  November 9 through November 16:  This model indicates a very active pattern will continue into the Pacific Northwest and northern California.  Precipitation spreads further south on this model, down into central California from time to time so at least a chance of rain is noted along with marginally above average temperatures.

Wind Discussion:  Winds during the late morning and afternoon hours will be generally at or less than 10 MPH through Friday.  Winds during the night and morning hours will be generally at or less than 7 MPH with periods of near calm conditions.

Rain:  Dry weather will continue through at least Monday night of next week.  There does seem to be a trend on medium range models in the possibility of a deep trough of low pressure moving out of the Gulf of Alaska and into California for an increasing chance of rain by Tuesday night with rain becoming likely Wednesday.  These same models indicate this will be a one shot event with dry weather beginning next Thursday and lasting for at least several days thereafter.

Frost:  All locations will be above freezing tonight and each night for the foreseeable future.
