This afternoon is almost a carbon copy of yesterday. Most of the fog and low clouds from this morning have dissipated with the exception of a good chunk of western Tulare County and eastern Kings County. As of 1:00pm, Visalia was reporting a temperature of just 48 under a cold, gray overcast while most other reporting stations were in the mid to upper 50s with hazy sunshine. At the surface, a 1036 millibar surface high is located over northern Utah. The flow around the high, in conjunction with a cut off low well to the southwest of San Diego, has the winds aloft out of the east/northeast.
A warm air inversion remains above the valley floor which will be weakened Thursday as a weak trough of low pressure moves through without bringing active weather. The high will quickly jump back in place Friday and on through the weekend. Temperatures will remain above average in areas that see clearing during the afternoon and near to slightly below average in those areas lacking in hazy afternoon sunshine.
Medium range models continue to show a cut off low well off a Baja, California coast through the remainder of the week while high pressure both at the surface and aloft remain over the western 1/3 of the US. Models going out through the 24th still show a dry weather pattern with above average temperatures.
Forecast: Extensive fog and low clouds during the night and morning hours with mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy and hazy afternoons through next Tuesday.

Rain: No rain is expected for at least the next seven to 10 days
Frost: Conditions this afternoon are very close to where they were yesterday. The last of the low clouds and fog will dissipate over Kings and Tulare Counties during the next hour or so. With mostly clear skies, good radiational cooling will occur tonight with widespread low to mid 30s. the very coldest, low lying areas will briefly dip into the upper 20s. there are high clouds spreading into northern California. As these clouds move into central California, they may be dense enough to keep temperatures above the forecast levels. However, we’ll leave it alone for now.
Medium range models continue to show above average temperatures for the next week to possibly ten days.
