Forecast

January 18, 2022/report

January 18, 2022

The overall pattern is somewhat complex this morning. There is an upper level low centered near Las Vegas which did spread some scattered showers over Kern County during the pre-dawn hours. However, ,Doppler radar indicates all of the active weather has moved into San Bernardino County and parts of western Nevada. The low is forecast to splinter up over the next 24 hours then move into the Desert Southwest as a big ridge of high pressure takes over California’s weather, and the rest of the west for that matter.

The pattern of upper level high pressure over the western states and the eastern Pacific will continue through the end of the month with generally dry weather in the western states and winter storms moving through much of the real estate east of the Rockies along with bone chilling cold. As long as this pattern persists, we’ll enjoy somewhat above average temperatures and mostly clear skies with occasional periods of high clouds. Areas of night and morning fog and low clouds will be possible each morning, as well.

Forecast: Partly cloudy through Wednesday. Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Wednesday night through Tuesday of next week.

Two Week Outlook:  January 25 through January 31: This model shows the persistent high slowly breaking down over the west, especially as we get closer to the 31. It at least gives a minimal chance of rain during this time frame with near average temperatures.

January:  This model doesn’t really indicate a trend that would favor above or below precipitation. The active storm track in the Pacific Northwest will continue. Both temperatures and precipitation should be close to seasonal averages.

January, February, March: The trend of below average temperatures of late continues on the 90 day forecast which indicates temperatures will be slightly below average. Below average precipitation is anticipated over the Desert Southwest and the southern half of California with near average precipitation from Fresno County north.

Wind Discussion: Winds will be generally at or less than 6 MPH with periods of near calm conditions through Friday.

Rain:  Expect dry weather for the next 7 to possibly 10 days.

Frost: Expect temperatures to be above freezing for the next 7 to 10 days.
