Quite a nice afternoon now that the pockets of fog have burned off. The usual valley haze is the atmosphere remains off the northern California coast with a big ridge stretching north/northeast into northwest Canada. Models are picking up on a dry low center which will develop over southern California during the next 48 hours. This will cause the current northerly winds to veer out of the northeast. An off shore surface flow will also develop tonight through Friday, generating gusty winds over the southern Sierra Nevada and the Kern County mountains. The bottom of the valley floor, however, will remain tranquil as these winds will remain several thousand feet above the valley floor. With dew points remaining in the mid to upper 40s, areas of fog will develop, mainly towards the center and west side of the valley, each day for at least the next week.
Models do show the northern portion of the high giving way towards the end of the month. This may allow showers to return to the Pacific Northwest and far northern California.
Forecast: Outside of areas of night and morning fog and low clouds and occasional high clouds, it will be mostly clear and hazy through next Wednesday.
