Visibilities this morning are running anywhere from 5 to 10 miles at most locations with just patchy fog here and there. Upper level high pressure is beginning to shift further east over California. With marginally higher pressure aloft, temperatures will respond accordingly, rising into the mid to upper 60s. changes are subtly occurring however. There’s a weak upper low in the Gulf of Alaska which is sliding southward well off shore. This low will park off the California coast this weekend with partly cloudy skies. Behind the system, beginning Tuesday, a low will drop from western Canada with most of the energy diving into the Great Basin and eventually the Desert Southwest. Unfortunately, it appears the chance of rain is waning as a mammoth high buids over the eastern Pacific, sending what had appeared to be a good chance of rain into the interior west and points eastward. This will be a colder pattern, though, with temperatures dropping below average the f irst week of February. We will have to monitor for frost concerns beginning about Wednesday of next week.
Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Friday. Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Friday through Thursday of next week. Patchy morning fog can be expected each day.

Two Week Outlook: February 1 through February 7: If this model has any credence, we should see at least some precipitation, especially between the 2 and the 4. Temperatures will sag below average.
February: The guidance on this model does not show any particular pattern that would favor temperatures or precipitation. Basically what it’s saying is there’s equal chances of above or below average rain as well as above or below average temperatures. Flip a coin.
February, March, April: There are no dominant trends on this model favoring above or below average precipitation. Temperatures during this period should be fairly close to seasonal values.
Wind Discussion: Winds will be generally at or less than 6 MPH with periods of near calm conditions through Sunday.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for the next 7 to 10 days.
Frost: as of 6:00am, Reedley, Ivanhoe, and Lindsay were all reporting 30 degrees with McFarland at 29. All other locations are in the low to mid 30s. daytime highs for today and tomorrow will be a bit warmer, generally in the mid to upper 60s as that off shore high moves overhead. Even so, dew points will remain low enough for coldest conditions to dip into the low to mid 30s. lack of rain has led to a dry valley floor, allowing the radiational cooling process to be a bit more enhanced then usual for this time of year. Widespread low to mid 30s can be expected over the next few nights with isolated frog ponds dipping into the upper 20s briefly. In the longer term, a colder air mass will invade central California next Tuesday through Friday. Since active weather has been knocked out of the forecast for now, we could see highs in the mid to upper 50s with lows in the upper 20s to the mid 30a.
