Strong high pressure both at the surface and aloft is now centered over the Great Basin. The surface high is unusually strong with a current altimeter reading of 30.90 at Boise, Idaho. Only rarely does the altimeter hit 31 inches of mercury. The high is shifting slowly eastward, allowing a low pressure system off the central coast to move towards southern California. As it does, variable amounts of mid and high level clouds will spread over central California through Saturday. Models are now showing pretty much a variation of what we’’ve had for the past month. A large dome of upper level high pressure will again build over the eastern Pacific, putting us under a northwest flow aloft beginning Saturday. Today should be the warmest day we’ll see for a while as synoptic cooling occurs due to that low moving through southern California. Even so, temperatures will remain above average. Even the two week model is now indicating above average temperatures with little chance of rain through the first week in February.
Forecast: Variable cloudiness at times through Saturday with patchy night and morning fog. Mostly clear Saturday night through Friday with patchy night and morning valley fog.

Two Week Outlook: February 4 through February 10: this time around, this model is reverting back to the same old thing. A large ridge of upper level high pressure will cover the eastern Pacific and the western one-third of the US, meaning the chance of rain will be very low with above average temperatures.
February: The guidance on this model does not show any particular pattern that would favor temperatures or precipitation. Basically, what it’s saying is there’s equal chances of above or below average rain as well as above or below average temperatures. Flip a coin.
February, March, April: There are no dominant trends on this model favoring above or below average precipitation. Temperatures during this period should be fairly close to seasonal values.
Wind Discussion: Winds will be generally at or less than 6 MPH with periods of near calm conditions through Monday.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for the next 7 to 10 days.
Frost: The air mass trapped on the valley floor is simply going to stay there until a weather system strong enough mixes things out. Currently, I don’t foresee that happening short term. The bottom line is the typical low lying pieces of real estate will dip down to the 29 to 32 degree range with most other locations in the low to mid 30s. expect similar conditions each night for the next week or so. There is simply nothing on models suggesting a cold weather pattern at this time.
