Forecast

February 3, 2022/pm report

February 3, 2022

Temperatures are generally 3 to 4 degrees warmer than this time yesterday at most locations. Dew points are essentially the same. There will be some increase in mid and high level clouds tonight and Friday due to a weak upper low which will be sliding southward off shore with little impact on the valley’s temperatures. The freezing level above us this afternoon is at about 9,300 feet, fairly typical for early February. Overall, however, a large upper high will dominate the eastern Pacific Ocean and the western 1/3 of the US. I keep looking for some signs of hope for a change in the pattern to one which would provide wet weather.  Unfortunately, there’s nothing showing up that would suggest this any time soon.

Forecast: Mostly clear skies through Sunday night. Mostly clear Monday through Thursday.

Wind Discussion: Winds will be generally at or less than 7 MPH with periods of near calm conditions through Sunday.

Rain:  Expect dry weather for at least the next 7 to 10 days.

Frost: we may have enough cloud cover tonight to slow the radiational cooling process. A weak upper low off the northern California coast is moving southward parallel to the coast and will eventually move inland through northern Baja over the weekend. Even if most of the cloud cover remains off shore, readings tonight will be in the low to mid 30s with unprotected river bottom type of locations dipping into the upper 20s. the inversion tonight will be decent with temperatures at 34 feet ranging from 4 to 7 degrees warmer than at ground level. Slow moderation will occur each day once we get into the weekend. Even so, dew points are low enough so that radiational cooling will be strong, partially due to the very dry environment. From Saturday morning on, lows will generally range between 32 and 37 with low lying frost pockets in the lower 30s. as early as Sunday, daytime highs will push the 70 degree mark with upper 60s and lower 70s being common Monday through Wednesday of next week.
