Forecast

February 7, 2022/report

February 7, 2022

Upper level high pressure is centered just west of the  Golden Gate this morning, putting it closer to the valley. Very strong surface high pressure is centered over the h Basin, generating an off shore flow. The freezing level is just below the 4,000 foot mark, indicating a warm bubble of subsiding air is aloft, compressing down towards the earth. This will result in unseasonably warm weather this upcoming week. High resolution models indicate many locations this afternoon will top the 70 degree mark, especially in Kern County where downslope winds will drive temperatures into the mid   70s. this whole week will be unusually warm. Some models show temperatures near the 80 degree mark over the weekend. That may be a bit overdone.

We’re finding ourselves in sort of a desert like climate due to the lack of rain the past six weeks. We have at least one more week of no rain coming  up.. the GFS model shows a system trying to move through  about the 18th or 19th for a chance of showers, However, that far out, we can only take it with a grain of salt.

Forecast: Mostly clear and hazy through Friday. Mostly clear  and continued hazy Saturday through Monday.

Two Week Outlook:  February 13 through February 18: this time around, this model is reverting back to the same old thing. A large ridge of upper level high pressure will cover the eastern Pacific and the western one-third of the US, meaning the chance of rain will be very low with above average temperatures.

February:  The guidance on this model does not show any particular pattern that would favor temperatures or precipitation. Basically, what it’s saying is there’s equal chances of above or below average rain as well as above or below average temperatures. Flip a coin.

February, March, April: There are no dominant trends on this model favoring above or below average precipitation. Temperatures during this period should be fairly close to seasonal values.

Wind Discussion: Winds will be generally at or less than 7 MPH through Thursday with periods of near calm conditions.

Rain: Expect dry conditions for the next 7 to 10 days.

Frost: Very strong upper level high pressure has shifted to a position just west of the Golden Gate  this morning. This will  push highs this afternoon past the 70 degree mark. Still, dew points are quite low,, which will allow coldest locations to dip into the low 30s. most locations will drop to between 33 and 40 degrees. With highs well into the 70s this week,, only the very coldest pieces of real estate will drop into the lower 30s. outside of that, there’s really not much to tell as well above average daytime highs will continue through at least the weekend.
