As expected, lows last night dipped into the mid-20s at the very coldest locations. Most locations, however, were 1 or 2 degrees warmer than projected. More in the frost discussion below. The cold arctic low has now moved into Colorado. The air aloft above central California is slowly moderating. The balloon sounding above Oakland a short time ago indicated a freezing level of 4,400 feet which is roughly 2,000 feet higher than 24 hours ago. Weak upper level high pressure is beginning to build in from the west. That will be reflected in a slow warming trend, especially with afternoon highs. Overnight lows, however, will be sub-freezing as a relatively dry air mass is now in place. A weak trough of low pressure will move through the Pacific Northwest and northern California Sunday, spreading some mid and high level clouds above us, but any precipitation will remain well to our north. Models show the storm track remaining well to our north for at least the next week with no chance of precipitation. Models after the sixth of March are inconclusive, but none shows a chance of precipitation this far south.
Forecast: Mostly clear through Saturday night with cold nights. Partly cloudy Sunday and Sunday night. Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Monday through Thursday.

Two Week Outlook: March 3 through March 9: This model is indicating a trough of low pressure may be stretching from the Gulf of Alaska into the western US. The signature for rain, however, is small with temperatures returning to below average.
February: The guidance on this model does not show any particular pattern that would favor temperatures or precipitation. Basically, what it’s saying is there’s equal chances of above or below average rain as well as above or below average temperatures. Flip a coin.
February, March, April: There are no dominant trends on this model favoring above or below average precipitation. Temperatures during this period should be fairly close to seasonal values.
Wind Discussion: Winds will be generally at or less than 8 mph with periods of near calm conditions, mainly during the night and morning hours, through Sunday.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for at least the next 7 days.
Frost: As of 6:00am, Sanger had chilled down to 26, Exeter, Lindsay, Fowler, and Clovis were at 27 degrees. This would put those wind sheltered, low lying areas down to 24 to 25. Even so, most locations came in 1 to 2 degrees warmer than yesterday afternoon’s projections. With dew points This afternoon expected to be in the mid to upper 20s, along with clear skies and calm winds, coldest low spots tonight will again dip into the mid 20s with those traditionally cold spots chilling down to 24 to 25. Most flatland locations will range from 26 to 30 with hillsides in the low to mid 30s.
Durations at or below 32 will be around 7 to 9 hours and at or below 28 in the coldest spots at 2 to 3 hours.
The inversion tonight will be better with temperatures at 34 feet from 4 to 8 degrees warmer at most locations.
Temperatures Saturday morning will be 2 to 5 degrees milder with coldest location in the low to mid 20s with most locations in the low to mid 30s.
Widespread low to mid 30s can be expected Sunday morning with isolated upper 20s. All locations will be above freezing Monday morning and beyond.
