Forecast

March 31, 2022/report

March 31, 2022

Mid and high level clouds associated with a weak trough of low pressure will move through today. Currently, clouds are based between 11,000 and 20,000 feet which will dim the sunshine from time to time, but otherwise will have little effect. High pressure off shore will push inland tonight and Friday, pushing temperatures into the mid to upper 70s then the low to mid 80s Saturday. Yet another weak wave of low pressure will move through Monday, blunting the warming trend. A strong ridge will build in Tuesday through Friday of next week. models show the mercury surpassing the 90 degree mark Thursday and Friday of next week. if this comes to pass, it would move us into record territory. Models continue to indicate a ridge of high pressure will be over and along the west coast, maintaining a dry regime with little to no chance of rain through the first ten days of the new month.

Forecast: A mix of high clouds and sunshine today. Mostly clear tonight through Sunday. Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy Monday and Monday night. Mostly clear Tuesday through Wednesday with a warming trend. Clear and borderline hot Thursday.

Two Week Outlook:  April 5 through April 11: This model indicates a dome of high pressure will be right along the Pacific coast, resulting in somewhat above average temperatures. The chance of precipitation during this period will be very low.

April:  April is a transition month as we move from springtime weather to early summer weather at the end of the month. This model indicates above average temperatures over the southern half of the Golden State with near average temperatures over northern and central California. Precipitation will range below average.

April, May, June: This model shows above average temperatures over the Desert Southwest, stretching westward to California. With high pressure generally in control, expect below average precipitation…which doesn’t mean much now that we’re headed into the dry season.

Wind Discussion: Winds during the afternoons and evenings will be mainly out of the northwest at around 5 to 12 mph through Sunday. Winds during the night and morning hours will be variable and generally at or less than 6 mph with periods of near calm conditions.

Rain:  Expect dry weather through at least the next week to ten days.

Frost:  Expect above freezing temperatures indefinitely.
