Forecast

April 27, 2022/report

April 27, 2022

We will continue to be under a quiet weather pattern in central California, although some increase in wind conditions will arrive tonight and Thursday due to the passage of a weak trough of low pressure. This will also lead to a marginal cooling trend as temperatures drop back into the mid 70s Thursday and Friday. This is mainly due to a deepening of the marine layer causing the onshore flow to increase. The current altimeter reading in San Francisco is 30.00 inches of mercury while the latest report out of Vegas is 29.74. The flow of marine air into the valley will increase tonight and Thursday then will end Thursday night through Saturday as a ridge of upper level high pressure builds in from the west. Readings back into the low to mid 80s will arrive Sunday through Wednesday as a stronger high builds in from the west and expands northward into the Pacific Northwest. Medium range models vary, but there’s no indication at this time of precipitation so dry weather can be expected for the next week to ten days with temperatures fluctuating somewhat day to day as occasional troughs of low pressure move through followed by ridges of  high pressure..

Forecast: Mostly clear to occasionally partly cloudy through Thursday. Mostly clear Thursday night and on through Wednesday of next week with occasional high clouds mixed in.

Two Week Outlook:  April 30 through May 6: This model indicates a trough of low pressure will be moving into the western states, resulting in a chance of showers, mainly for northern California. Colder air aloft will also be associated with this feature, resulting in marginally below average temperatures.

May:  This model shows a dominant high stretching from Texas to southern California, resulting in somewhat above average temperatures for the month. It also gives an equal chance of above or below normal precipitation.

May, June, July: This model shows an early season high over the Four Corners region of the desert southwest, stretching westward to California, causing temperatures as we head into summer to be marginally above average. Since this is the dry season, the chances of precipitation will be very low

Wind Discussion: Winds will be at or less than 10 mph through this morning. Winds late this afternoon and on through Thursday evening will be out of the west to northwest at 10 to 20 mph at times with locally stronger gusts. Winds Friday through Saturday will be out of the northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  During the night and morning hours, winds will be mainly out of the northwest at less than 10 mph with periods of near calm conditions.

Rain:  Expect dry conditions for the next week to possibly ten days.

Frost:  All locations will be above freezing tonight and each night for the foreseeable future.
