a low pressure system will move into the Pacific Northwest later today, too late, however, to allow an intrusion of air into the valley. But, as the low moves into the Great Basin Sunday, the marine layer will deepen more as the difference in pressure between the coast and the interior increases. Sunday’s high should be four or five degrees cooler at most locations that today’s highs which will peak into the mid 80s. the see saw battle between progressive highs (and I’m not talking about liberals) and progressive lows…meaning they’re on the move…will continue Monday and Tuesday as readings rise, peaking Wednesday through Friday as highs push the 90 degree mark. Models do show a more significant trough of low pressure moving into the western US next weekend, however, typically in early May this pattern simply results in cooler temperatures and increasing wind conditions. The bottom line is, this basic pattern will continue for at least the next week or so with dry weather and temperatures wobbling back and forth from day to day.
Forecast: Other than occasional high clouds, skies will be mostly clear through Wednesday. Mostly clear Wednesday night through Saturday.

Two Week Outlook: May 7 through May 13: This model is showing a trough of low pressure along the coast during this period with temperatures close to seasonal average. Above average precipitation will occur over northern California with only a minimal chance of light showers as far south as Fresno County.
May: This model shows a dominant high stretching from Texas to southern California, resulting in somewhat above average temperatures for the month. It also gives an equal chance of above or below normal precipitation.
May, June, July: This model shows an early season high over the Four Corners region of the desert southwest, stretching westward to California, causing temperatures as we head into summer to be marginally above average. Since this is the dry season, the chances of precipitation will be very low
Wind Discussion: during the afternoons and evenings through Tuesday, winds will generally be out of the northwest at 5 to 15 mph with locally stronger gusts. Winds during the nights and mornings will be generally variable to 8 mph with periods of near calm conditions.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for the next week to possibly ten days.
Frost: All locations will be above freezing tonight and each night for the foreseeable future.
