A weak trough of low pressure extends from the Pacific Northwest to central California. The portion of the trough this far south is inactive, but it has deepened the marine layer enough to allow for modified marine air to move down the valley. Winds in the Delta at Travis AFB are currently sustained at 23 mph out of the southwest. Marine air is also gushing through Pacheco Pass where winds are sustained at 21 mph, gusting to 35 mph. the cooler air will lower temperatures into the mid 80s in Merced County and the mid to upper 80s south of Merced County, possibly near 90 in Kern County. The trough will move through today through Tuesday with upper level high pressure rebuilding Wednesday through Friday for a warming trend. Models show a stronger ridge building northward over the weekend. Mid to upper 90s should be commonplace by Sunday and it’s possible hottest locations could come in near the century mark Monday. as far as any active weather is concerned, there is none on the horizon. It appears above average temperatures will be the order of the day this week and especially through this weekend and early next week.
