Upper level high pressure continues to push eastward over California from its off shore center. The latest balloon sounding this morning over Oakland indicates a freezing level now up to a summer type reading of 15,100 feet. The descending motion of the atmosphere underneath the high has crushed the marine layer. Winds both at Travis AFB in the Delta and at Pacheco Pass are light, so the marine influence will be totally absent today as readings move into the mid 90s. Tomorrow will be noticeably cooler. A low center currently over British Columbia will drop southward into the Great Basin, rapidly increasing the difference in pressure between off shore waters and the interior west. Gusty northwesterly winds will move down the valley late this afternoon through Friday, resulting in a good 10 degree drop in temperatures Friday. The usually topsy turvy trend in temperatures will continue as readings will again head north by early next week as an even stronger high builds eastward over California. Blended model information for Tuesday through Thursday give a decent chance of our first triple digit heat of the year by the middle of next week. the flow aloft will remain dry and out of the northwest, ensuring no precipitation in our weather future for now.

Two Week Outlook: May 26 through June 1: This model is showing a fairly substantial ridge of upper level high pressure over the eastern Pacific and the western US, maintaining above average temperatures for central California with little to no chance of precipitation.
May: This model shows a dominant high stretching from Texas to southern California, resulting in somewhat above average temperatures for the month. It also gives an equal chance of above or below normal precipitation.
May, June, July: This model shows an early season high over the Four Corners region of the desert southwest, stretching westward to California, causing temperatures as we head into summer to be marginally above average. Since this is the dry season, the chances of precipitation will be very low
Wind Discussion: Winds will be light this morning then will increase out of the northwest at 10 to 20 mph this afternoon through Friday. Gusts to near 30 mph will be possible tonight and Friday morning, mainly along the west side. Winds Friday night will decrease to 5 to 12 mph. Winds Saturday through Monday will be generally out of the northwest afternoons and evenings at 5 to 12 mph, becoming light and variable during the night and morning hours.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for at least the next 7 to 10 days.
Frost: All locations will be above freezing tonight and each night for the foreseeable future.
