Forecast

June 4, 2022/report

June 4, 2022

At the upper levels of the atmosphere, there is a fairly robust low pressure system centered just west of Vancouver Island. The jet stream is flanked underneath the low and runs from west to east across the eastern Pacific and into northern California. Doppler radar is actually picking up virga from the northern San Joaquin Valley northward. Virga is rain falling but not reaching the ground. Considerable amounts of cloud cover will continue to stream over the northern half of California through Sunday. At the surface, barometric pressure is lower over the Great Basin than off shore California. The current altimeter reading at San Francisco is 29.91 inches of mercury while at Las Vegas the current reading is 29.68. This will allow modified marine air to move down the valley, helping temperatures trend downwards today. Enjoy this mild weather while you can as models are very consistent this morning in pointing to a heat wave later this week. upper level high pressure off the southern California coast will expand eastward and northward, driving temperatures well above the century mark beginning Friday and lasting through this coming weekend. It appears hottest locations next Saturday and Sunday will top out in the 105 to 107 degree range. The next cooling trend will begin a week from Monday as a weak trough displaces the high pressure system.

Forecast: Variable cloudiness at times through Sunday. Mostly clear Sunday night through Wednesday with a warming trend. Clear and hot Thursday through Sunday.

Two Week Outlook:  June 11 through June 15: This model is depicting a rather strong ridge of high pressure over the Desert Southwest and the eastern Pacific Ocean. Temperatures will rise to above average with the usual dry weather continuing.

June:  This model shows a high center over New Mexico and Texas extending into California for marginally above average temperatures for the month with the usual dry conditions prevailing.

June, July, August: This model is hinting at a possible active monsoon season this year once we get into July and August. It’s possible we could see more than the usual amount of afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada but the valley will be typically dry with above average temperatures.
