Temperatures are running 2 to 4 degrees cooler than 24 hours ago. The marine layer has deepened to 2,500 feet deep and is surging through the Delta. Winds at Travis AFB are sustained at 27 mph, gusting to 32 mph while winds at Pacheco Pass are sustained at 18 mph. Readings this afternoon will drop into the upper 90s to possibly the lower 100s in Kern County. Today will be the coolest we’ll see for the next week as upper level high pressure over the Four Corners region expands westward, increasing pressures aloft over California. Satellite imagery this morning depicts an active monsoon moving from old Mexico and into the interior west. Over the weekend, enough of this flow will move into California for a chance of isolated thunderstorms over the high Sierra and possibly some high clouds over the valley floor. Readings Saturday through Monday will soar into the 104 to 108 degree range. The weather will continue hot through the middle of next week, if not beyond as blended model information shows a strong high remaining over the southwestern US and California. Now and through the next two weeks are, on the average, the hottest of the year with average temperatures now in the upper 90s.
Forecast: Mostly clear and hot through Sunday. Mostly clear and continued hot Sunday night through Wednesday.

Two Week Outlook: July 19 through July 25 This model shows upper level high pressure shifting a bit further east, allowing temperatures to move to somewhat near seasonal levels. Typical dry conditions will continue.
June: This model shows a high center over New Mexico and Texas extending into California for marginally above average temperatures for the month with the usual dry conditions prevailing.
June, July, August: This model is hinting at a possible active monsoon season this year once we get into July and August. It’s possible we could see more than the usual amount of afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the Sierra Nevada but the valley will be typically dry with above average temperatures.
Wind Discussion: During the afternoon and evening hours, winds will be mainly out of the northwest at 8 to 15 mph with locally stronger gusts. During the late evening through the morning hours, winds will be variable to 10 mph with periods of near calm conditions through Saturday.
Rain: Expect dry conditions for the next 7 to 10 days.
Frost: All locations will be above freezing tonight and each night for the foreseeable future.
